Segundo uma célebre afirmação do Filósofo Ludwig Wittgenstein, os limites de nossa língua estabelecem os limites de nosso mundo¹. Não há dúvida de que o aprendizado de uma língua estrangeira é uma das formas mais eficazes de ampliar nossos horizontes, assim como viajar e ter contato com outras culturas. Entretanto, observamos que na atualidade o que tem levado a maioria das pessoas a se dedicar ao aprendizado de uma língua estrangeira é a pressão que sentem para melhorar seus currículos. Embora definitivamente não haja nada de errado em almejar melhores condições de trabalho e, por conseguinte, rendimentos mais elevados, neste breve ensaio gostaríamos de propor uma reflexão sobre a importância do prazer intrínseco à aprendizagem de um idioma.
Quando a única motivação para se aprender uma língua estrangeira é a melhoria do currículo, via de regra ela vem acompanhada de uma preocupação exacerbada em encontrar o método mais rápido para isso. Ora, desde a antiguidade clássica, pensadores como Platão e Aristóteles já afirmavam que naturalmente desejamos o que nos é prazeroso e evitamos o que nos é doloroso. Com o surgimento da psicologia científica, no final do século XIX e início do século XX, diferentes abordagens deste campo evidenciaram que nossa mente é programada para buscar o prazer e fugir do desprazer. A dor e o desprazer, em suas manifestações mais brandas se apresentam como o tédio e, nas mais extremas, como o sofrimento. Assim, muitas vezes, ainda que a pessoa não se dê conta, essa busca pelo método mais rápido para aprender um idioma faz com que sua mente perceba o aprendizado em si como algo entediante ou fonte de sofrimento, algo que se procura evitar tão logo seja possível. O paradoxo aqui é que, devido a essa mentalidade, a aprendizagem da língua estrangeira quase sempre será prejudicada, pois a psicologia científica também nos mostra que a aprendizagem é mais eficaz quando acompanhada de prazer.
Por isso, gostaríamos sugerir a recuperação do prazer intrínseco ao processo de aprendizagem de uma língua estrangeira, seja ela qual for: uma língua mais desafiadora como a alemã ou uma mais próxima da nossa e, por isso, de certo modo mais fácil, como a espanhola. A forma mais simples e evidente para que isso aconteça é associar a língua que se pretende aprender a outras atividades que já consideramos prazerosas em si, tais como: escutar música, assistir a filmes e séries, jogar videogames e tantas outras. Aqueles que já sentem o prazer de entender a letra de uma música que os emocionam, compreender a fala de um personagem que admiram ou passar de uma fase difícil em um jogo que adoram, tudo isso na língua original, sabem como é indescritível o sentimento de realização.
Convencidos da relevância desta reflexão, gostaríamos ainda de sugerir a todos que têm o objetivo de aprender uma língua estrangeira, que aproveitem este difícil momento de isolamento social pelo qual estamos passando, para cultivar o prazer na aprendizagem do idioma com o auxílio da tecnologia que atualmente temos à nossa disposição. Graças a ela, hoje em dia é possível fazer aulas remotas, seja em uma escola de idiomas ou com um professor particular, com a mesma qualidade das aulas presenciais e com a conveniência e o conforto de nossas casas. Além disso, as plataformas de streaming, como a Netflix, por exemplo, nos permitem estar em contato não apenas com a língua inglesa, mas também com outros idiomas. Basta citarmos aqui a empolgante série espanhola “La Casa de Papel”; a congelante série norueguesa “Ragnarok”; a desconcertante série alemã “Dark”; a divertida série francesa “Flagrantes de Família”; e a eletrizante série italiana “Suburra”. Cabe a cada um encontrar algo que lhe traga prazer e que possa ser associado à aprendizagem de um novo idioma, expandindo, assim, seus horizontes.
